Hello! I’m Jade, a passionate educator specializing in computer science, math, SAT/ACT prep, and academic coaching. I have over 7 years of experience in educational settings with students ranging from kindergarteners through college freshmen.
As a CS instructor, my approach combines systematic instruction with unstructured experimentation and exploration. Error messages are viewed as helpful opportunities to learn rather than mistakes to be avoided. Students are encouraged to ask all of their questions and try out all of their ideas, even when -- especially when -- they are unsure if their ideas will work. I aim to foster problem-solving skills, rigorous logical thinking, creativity, a deep understanding of why the program works the way it does, technical communication skills, good habits like commenting code thoroughly, and the technical vocabulary and reading skills that are necessary for students to learn new coding tools on their own by reading documentation.
As a math instructor, my approach encourages deep conceptual understanding over rote memorization, making connections to everyday life, and making connections between new concepts and previously mastered concepts. I aim to foster number sense, logical reasoning, and the problem-solving fluency necessary to recognize that there are often multiple ways to arrive at the correct answer.
With all of my students, I value empathy and compassion, so my approach is always encouraging, positive, flexible, and supportive. I aim to foster a growth mindset where each student is motivated to challenge themselves in new ways. I believe learning should feel empowering, exciting, and personally meaningful. Each lesson I design draws from evidence-based teaching practices and is customized to meet students where they are.
